1. Bridging the Gap
I intended to represent a large-scale installation of a canopy with hanging semi-transparent sheets. I created this piece during my junior year of high school when I felt the dynamics of my family change. I yearned for independence but the process of letting go was turbulent. To reflect this inner angst, I created a canopy frame that fluctuates and casts pointed shadows.
As the viewer moves underneath the canopy, there is a threshold where the wavelength smooths out in parallel bends. This structure serves as an architectural timeline of disruption against the calm as I leave my childhood behind. I initially expected the wood to be limited to rectilinear shapes, but through molds and boiling water, I could stretch the material's limitations.
